Tend the Japanese Emperor's bamboo garden and care for a hungry giant panda in Takenoko New ECO. Players expand a shared garden with coloured land plots, irrigate new areas and use the Imperial Gardener to grow green, yellow and pink bamboo. Every development must also survive the panda, which eagerly eats the tender shoots required for its own objectives.
Each turn combines two different actions, such as adding a plot, taking an irrigation channel, moving the gardener, moving the panda or drawing an objective. The weather die adds a helpful changing effect that can grant an extra action, encourage growth, move the panda or provide another advantage. Plot, Gardener and Panda objective cards reward different approaches to shaping and managing the garden.
Because all players cultivate the same landscape, a useful placement can advance several plans at once. Irrigation determines where bamboo is able to grow, while the straight line movement of the gardener and panda makes the arrangement of the hexagonal plots important. This New ECO edition presents the complete standalone Takenoko game using an environmentally conscious production approach.
