CATAN New Energies Board Game

A brand new standalone game that is rooted in classic CATAN mechanics of harvesting, trading, and building. New gameplay elements including power plants, energy tokens, and environmental events add new strategies and stories to a familiar foundation.

Develop an expanding society while confronting the environmental consequences of its energy use in CATAN New Energies. Players gather resources, trade with their neighbours and construct towns, cities, roads and power plants across a changing island.

Fossil fuel plants can provide rapid access to the energy needed for growth, while renewable plants offer a cleaner long term path. Every decision contributes to the shared environmental situation, so one players approach can create opportunities or serious problems for everyone.

Science cards, environmental events and the global footprint track add new pressures to the familiar process of settlement and trade. Victory requires a successful economy, but ignoring pollution may leave the entire island facing increasingly damaging consequences.

This is a complete standalone game and does not require the CATAN base game.
