Hoplite 2nd Printing Board Game

Hoplite uses detailed mechanics meant to convey all the possibilities of this style of warfare, from The Hellenic Law of Inertia, to Drift to the Right, to the special capabilities of the Persian Light Cavalry (Harassment and Dispersal) to three different levels of Hoplite advance to Combat (the Run Don’t Walk rules) and a whole lot more. We even still have some good old chariots!

Command armies from the Persian and Hellenistic worlds in Hoplite 2nd Printing, Volume XV in the Great Battles of History series. Eleven scenarios recreate clashes in which disciplined heavy infantry, agile cavalry, missile troops and chariots fought for control of the ancient Mediterranean and Near East.

The system places unusual emphasis on the strengths and limitations of packed infantry formations. Players must manage facing, cohesion, command and momentum while exploiting the mobility of lighter forces or trying to break an opposing line before their own formation loses order.

Several battles can be played on a portion of a map while the largest encounters create sweeping multi hour contests. Updated components correct known errata, and the included Simple Great Battles of History rules provide a more streamlined way to explore the same scenarios.
