Work together to contain four deadly diseases before they overwhelm the world in Pandemic. Each player joins an elite disease control team with a specialist role and a distinct ability. Travelling between connected cities, the group treats infections, builds research stations, shares knowledge and collects the sets of city cards needed to discover all four cures.
Every turn provides four actions, but the diseases continue spreading after the active player finishes. Infection cards add cubes to cities across the map, and an outbreak can send disease into every connected location. Epidemic cards intensify the pressure by increasing the infection rate, striking a new city and returning previously drawn infection cards to the top of the deck.
Success depends on coordinating roles and planning several turns ahead. The Scientist can discover cures with fewer matching cards, while other specialists improve movement, construction, treatment or information sharing. The 2013 edition adds the Contingency Planner and Quarantine Specialist to the role selection. Players win together by discovering all four cures, but lose together if outbreaks escalate too far, disease cubes run out or the player deck is exhausted.
